Trinity College – Dublin, Ireland

Trinity College was founded in 1592 by Queen Elizabeth I in Dublin’s city center, where an Augustinian monastery once stood. It was originally a Protestant college, and began taking Catholic students after 1970. Some of Trinity College’s famous students are Samuel Bekett, Oliver Goldsmith and Edmund Burke.

The visitors can enter the Old Library and the Book of Kells housed in Treasury. The Old Library, which was built in 1732, is a 210 ft long room with more than 200,000 books. A barble busts of scholars and the oldest surviving harp in Ireland are also displayed in here.

The Book of Kells is the most richly decorated Ireland’s medieval illuminated manuscripts probably by the monks from Iona, who fled to Kells in AD 806. The book was brought to Trinity College in the 17th century. It contains the four gospels in Latin. It’s a beautifully written and colorfully drawn book, and one of the must see attractions in Dublin.

Also, Samuel Beckett Theater and Douglas Hyde Gallery are open for visitors.
