Powerscourt was on my places to visit in Ireland list since the very first time I visited Ireland. In 2007, I finally made it there! Powerscourt is in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, which is South of Dublin about a hour drive from Dublin city center. The place is huge including the Powerscourt house, Dolphin pond, Triton lake, Japanese gardens, Italian gardens, etc. It takes 2+ hours to walk around the area. You’ll walk up hill from Triton Lake to Pets’ Cemetery. Wear comfortable shoes. The walk on beautiful forest side of the hills was very nice, where I saw 3 horses.
The original Powerscourt house was built in 1731 on the site of a Norman castle. It was burnt down in 1974. The Slazenger family, who own the estate now, have restored the ground floor and the ballroom upstairs, where you can visit for a fee. There’s a cafe inside the Powerscort house, where you can enjoy the beautiful garden view. The golf course next to Powerscourt is one of the famous courses in Ireland.
