The Band on College Green is a bar and restaurant near Trinity College. I went there for a business meet over a cup of coffee a few years ago, and this summer (2007), I went back there for late lunch. I saw someone was having Irish breakfast, which they serve all day. The meals are good, inside is very comfortable that you can relax and enjoy food and drinks. I’d definitely go back there again.
This Victorian building was built by the Belfast Bank in 1895. You can still see “BB” in some of the beautifully designed stained glass windows. The building was designed by William Henry Lynn, who was one of the British Empire’s leading architectural lights. According to them, everything is exactly as it was when the Belfast Bank opened its doors to the Dublin public in April 1895. They have been preserving it beautifully with pride.
When I was having late lunch, there were a large group of Limerick’s Hurling fans having drinks and pub meals as they wait for the game to start. Unlike some of other pubs, where you see lots of crazy, drunk and “fun” sports fans, the Bank seemed to attract well-mannered people.
