Phoenix Park – Dublin, Ireland

Phoenix Park - Dublin, IrelandPhoenix Park is located West of Dublin‘s city center. It covers 1,760 acres of land. There are several monuments and buildings in Phoenix Park as well as the Zoological garden.

The Papal Cross (photo) stands wehre the pope celebrated Mass in front of one million people in 1979.

The Zoological Gardens opened in 1830, and is the 3rd oldest zoo in the world. The lion appears at the beginning of MGM movies was from this zoo.

The Ashtown Castle is a restored 17th century tower house. It’s the only building open to the public inside Phoenix Park. The Phoenix Park visitor center is inside this castle building.

It’s a nice park, but going there after dark is not recommended.
