Dublin Spire – Ireland

Dublin Spire - IrelandThe Dublin Spire stands in front of the General Post Office on O’Connell Street in Dublin. The construction of the spire was completed in January 2003. The Dublin Spire was built in place of the Nelson’s Pillar, which was brown in half in 1966.

The Dublin Spire is 120 meters tall, which makes it the tallest structure in Dublin. The top section is lit up with small LEDs at night. O’Connell street has been nicely paved, and especially on the sunny day, you’d want to capture the Dublin Spire in a photo with blue sky in the background, but as it stands on the busy street, capturing the entire structure is a quite a challenge. I took this photo from my hotel room window.

The Nelson’s Pillar, which was about 45 meters tall, was built in 1808. The head of Nelson is exhibited at the Dublin Civic Museum.
