Bunratty Castle is one of the must-see places when you are in County Clare area of Ireland. This one of the most complete medieval castle was built in 1425. The residents include the O’Briens, Earls of Thomond, who lived there from around 1500 to 1640′s. The place looks much like how it did back when “Great Earl” lived there till his death in 1624. Bunratty Castle was restored in 1954, and now is beautifully furnished and decorated with 15th & 16th century furnitures and tapestries.
When visiting Bunratty Castle, don’t miss the 17th century German chandelier hanging in the North Solar, and the Tudor standard in the Great hall.
The visitors can attend the Medieval Banquette held at the Bunratty Castle’s Main Guard twice nightly hosted by the Ladies of the Castle since 1963. (Reservation required.) It’s a 4 course meal with wine and music entertainment. The Main Guard room was used by solders back in the Medieval time. Before attending the banquette, visit the Bunratty Folk Park next to the castle.
There are some bus tours take you there, but I took a city bus from Limerick bus center. The bus stops by the hotel near the castle entrance.
